i'm going to take an art class YAY

A few weeks ago, I started driving a new way to work, and every day since then I've stopped at the same red light in front of a custom frame shop slash art studio with a sign advertising art classes at all levels and an invitation to inquire within. So today, I parked my car in front of the studio and inquired within.

Turns out they have adult art classes at $200 per ten three hour sessions. You can start whenever you want provided that there's an opening in one of the classes and then go straight on for ten sessions. The classes are small, and you can be at any level. Newcomers are to bring samples of their artwork, and then they can discuss with the teacher what areas they should be working on and what they want to get out the classes.

I haven't taken art classes since middle school, and I really feel like I'm in a kinda art slump and I need some professional guidance to improve my work. So I've decided to commit to taking these classes this summer and I'M SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!

On a less cheerful note, I beginning to be swamped with homework *grumble* and probably won't have time to do much artwork in the near future.

Hi everyone,
So, I've been wanting for a while to do some ink art with my calligraphy pens - I did do that one with the butterflies, but it was hard to do, so I gave it a very flat look. Now, the flat look is ok when you're going for it, but I'd like to make some better art with it, but I really had no idea how. Until....I found an old series of books that I read forever ago laying around in my sister's room, and found inside them the most gorgeous inked (they look inked at least) illustrations. (they are called the Edge Chronicles btw). So I've been studying them and trying to copy the technique. So far all I've done is copy the illustrations from the book, which is copying obviously so I won't be posting them, but I'm going to branch off and try some of my own pics. It might be a while before I post any more art (but again, it might not), as I'd like to work some more on this technique before displaying it. The hardest part is how unforgiving inks are - if you make a mistake you have to creatively turn it into part of the pic, live with it, or scrap it - it's so very unlike what I'm used to as watercolors are very forgiving of mistakes. But I'm having fun :)

I got a new camera for my birthday! *is excited* I've already taken a new pic of my latest deviation, which came out MUCH clearer. Perhaps I will experiment with the zillions of settings that this thing seems to have and post a few photographs.

and I have made a stamp. it is a completely 100% true stamp!

Yay for President's Day on Monday - I may have a zillion and a half things to do for school, but I'm taking my extra day off to make some serious art. And not any digital stuff either - I'm going to put on my paint clothes and get messy! I love when my hands are stained with paint :D

colors

I've been pretty happy with the coloring effects I've been able to get on photoshop elements for both my digital art and my traditional touch ups. But when I went to school the other day, I logged into dA on one of their macs, and found that my colors came out very bright and almost garish. I'm not sure if it's just a browser difference, or if different computers just display colors differently. It's upsetting to know that what can look lovely on my computer can look overdone and just plain bad on another computer. Has anyone else had this problem?

I want to finish my painting, but instead I have a research paper to write. Art ought to trump research papers, but that doesn't work in grad school :(. Plus the articles all have statistics in them, and I never took statistics - so I'm kind of skipping those parts and hoping they aren't incredibly important...

I will update sometime, but I have to get this homework stuff done...

To those of you who have added me to their watch lists so far, you don't know how much it means to me - thanks :)
